Marriage restored, but no sasural for Kavita
Ravinder Saini | Rohtak
Overturning its earlier order of annulling the three-year-old marriage of Satish Berwal and Kavita Beniwal for allegedly violating the social norm of fraternity between the two gotras, a joint panchayat of Beniwal and Berwal gotras on Friday reinstated the marital status of the couple after hours-long discussion over the issue at Meham town of Rohtak in Haryana.

The panchayat allowed Satish and Kavita to continue as husband and wife but imposed a life ban on Kavita’s visit to her in-laws' village Kheri for allegedly challenging the panchayat’s decision and lodging a complaint with the police against members of the village panchayat held on January 30 last.
The panchayat also ordered the couple to withdraw the criminal case registered against the Beniwal gotra persons who allegedly attended the controversial panchayat a meeting that ordered termination of the couple’s marriage last week. Satish Berwal said he accepted the panchayat’s verdict and would stay with his wife Kavita and their son Raunak in Meham while his wife Kavita withheld her comment.
Notably, police had registered a case under Sections 499, 153, 504 and 505 IPC against unidentified members of the khap panchayat which had pronounced the annulment five days back acting on the complaint of Kavita Beniwal.
A joint panchayat of the Berwal-Beniwal gotra in Kheri village of Meham subdivision in this district had on January 30 issued a diktat to terminate the three-year-old matrimonial tie between Satish Berwal and Kavita citing social norm of bhaichara (fraternity) between Berwal and Beniwal gotras.
Kavita belongs to Bhagi village in Bhiwani district and hailed from Beniwal before marriage. The panchayat had maintained that people of both gotras reside in Kheri village and hence their relationship violated the societal ‘norm’ and ordered the young pair to terminate their matrimonial ties with immediate effect.

Nokia is going green by taking back old phone for recycling and has started “we:recycle” campaign and urging people to become “Planet Saver”. It’s requesting people to drop old phones at Nokia priority dealer or Nokia care centre and promising to recycle the metal and plastic to make useful things, resulting into no extra mining and no cutting trees. It’s also promising to plant a tree for every phone you drop.
In today’s reality, recycling old phones is not such a common practice. Isn’t this a very innovative and big corporate social responsibility (CSR), the size at Nokia operates is large and collecting phones from thousands of priority centre and Nokia care need huge logistics and then dismantle all these phones. Nokia has over 1 billion phones sold worldwide.
Nokia is a market leader in mobile devices and with leadership comes great responsibility. Nokia aims to be a leading company in environmental performance. Our vision is a world where everyone being connected can contribute to sustainable development. We want to shape our industry and drive best practices says Nokia on its website.
How many times you have upgraded your mobile handset in last 3 years? What you did with old handset? Many of such handsets remain somewhere in the corner of the room or thrown in dustbin. When your phone is lost, charger is not lost and hence you pile up big stocks of these chargers because they are not standardized for all phones. You simply keep these chargers at home for indefinite time.
Think, you too can not contribute to save earth by responding to Nokia’s advt.
There's still a lot in an old phone
Old phones might seem worthless but they still contain many usable and valuable materials. Nokia’s idea is to make it easier for consumers to act green by offering the possibility to return old, unused phones and accessories. Authorized Nokia Service Points, flagship stores, municipal collections, industry association's collections, or retailers' campaigns are all possible channels for returning used products.
Refurbishment
We are currently investigating, from an environmental and business angle, the refurbishment process of used mobile phones. As a major manufacturer, it is in both our best interests and that of our consumers to bring some clarity and quality assurance to an area of the market that has been left largely undefined.
Minimising our environmental footprint
Nokia’s environmental work is based on life cycle thinking. This means that Nokia aim to minimize the environmental impact of our products throughout our operations, beginning with the extraction of raw materials and ending with recycling, treatment of waste, and recovery of used materials. Nokia achieve this by better product design, close control of the production processes, and greater material reuse and recycling.
Nokia’s environmental efforts focus on four issues:
· Substance management. Nokia work closely with our suppliers and require full declaration of the substances we use in our devices. Our work is based on the precautionary principle and we aim at continuously reducing the amount of substances of concern. In addition, Nokia explore the opportunities for using new, more environmentally friendly materials, such as bio plastics or recycled metals and plastics.
· Energy efficiency. Nokia make sure our devices use as little energy as possible. Nokia also work to reduce the energy consumption of our operations, and agree on energy efficiency targets with our key suppliers.
· Take back and recycling. Nokia want to increase consumer awareness of recycling, offer superior recycling in all markets and promote the recycling of used devices through specific initiatives and campaigns. The backbone of Nokia’s take-back program are the collection points of used devices in 5000 Nokia care centres in 85 countries.
· Promoting sustainability through services and software. Nokia has developed eco services for our phones to help people to make sustainable choices and consider the environment in their everyday lives. A variety of eco services are freely downloadable to Nokia devices via Ovi store.

Questioning Matrimonial Websites’ Security & Confidentiality?
A source reveals that the ad has all the details about Sameera and makes it look like she's desperate to find a groom. "She was totally shocked that the ad had her details like her date of birth, her vital statistics and family information.
Also, they put up a picture of hers, saying she's looking for a groom. It looked like an authentic matrimonial ad," says the source. Reddy's friends and close ones have started joking about it as well.
Sameera is amused by the existence of such an ad and says, "Do you think I need to go to a website or take its support to declare that I want to get married?"
But, all this turned out to be false alarm when Sameera herself confirmed that the ad hasn’t been put up by her. "Do you think I need to go to a website or take its support to declare that I want to get married," she asked the prying journalists.
This area of cybercrime is with regard to defamation. There are various issues related to Internet defamation. These are white collar crime; today this has happened with Sameera Reddy and because she is celebrity, matrimonial portal must have deleted it faster than the usual. But imagine if this would have happened to next door girl in neighborhood. There are instances where people are cheating other candidates by false and fake profiles on matrimonial sites.
There has to be need to cross check the authenticity of profiles, photographs, key information put up on such sites. Putting wrong information can cause a big trauma to girl and her family and consequences will be long term. In India police cyber crime cell is flooded with complaints from internet users for various crimes. This crime which results into undue marriage and relationship of lifetime, but it is irreparable once committed. Hence prevention measure is far more important than catching the culprit later on.
Indian Express recently reported that India is fast emerging as a major hub of cybercrime as recession is driving computer-literate criminals to electronic scams, claimed a study by researchers at the University of Brighton. As more and more regions of the world go online, cybercrime is finding new and more permissive environments, especially in developing nations, where cybercrime is gaining a foothold, the report says.
The internet is growing bigger and bigger and it will pose harms even bigger. No one possesses internet, yet worldwide people of utilize it. But efforts to curb misuse needs to strengthen.
